Houston & Casablanca

This week is a quiet one for me on the betting front. It is the first week of the proper clay court season and, as such, it is spent more in observation that backing anyone. I will get more involved next week when the players head to the beautiful Monte Carlo Country Club.

Having said that, I had Gael Monfils to beat Blake a few night's ago in Houston but then I lost on Pablo Andujar against Pablo Carreno-Busta in Casablanca so, all in all, it is just important to wait, be patient, and see who is playing well and adjusting to this surface.

Really quickly, looking at the draw for Houston - I think whoever wins tonight's clash between Monfils and Almagro will take the title there. It will more than likely be Almagro but I would love to see Monfils do it. Take the winner of that to win it out.

In Morocco at the Grand Prix Hassan III I think Stan Wawrinka is an overwhelming favourite and is a cert for the title. The standard is pretty deplorable here compared to the tournaments that we will see over the coming month or so. Wawrinka has never lost a match here at these courts and the only half danger to his title chances will be when he takes on his best friend on the tour Benoit Paire in the semi final. Paire doesn't have the tennis to beat Stan in normal circumstances but when best friends collide on court sometimes the tennis ability doens't come into it! Nonetheless, take Stan the man to lift the crown here again.
